HWK Koblenz “International Welding Expert (IWE)” awards at EWM
The HWK Koblenz certificates were handed over to the “International Welding Expert (IWE)” graduates in the EWM HIGHTEC WELDING GmbH technology centre in Mündersbach on 24 March 2010.
The successful family-run company EWM is a market and innovation leader in Germany in the field of arc welding technology The encouragement of experts is something that is extremely important to both EWM and HWK (Chamber of Trade) Koblenz. Because training and further education are the basis for outstanding work, and ultimately also a high level of efficiency and research. EWM was pleased to follow the suggestion made by Mr Eich (graduate engineer, SFI), manager of Schweißtechnik HWK Koblenz, and put on a great evening for the graduates in collaboration with the Chamber of Trade. The “International Welding Expert (IWE)” course at HWK Koblenz is aimed at skilled workers, foremen, technicians and graduate engineers. The participants took part in a comprehensive course and learned the fundamental skills of the welding processes and equipment, the materials and the behaviour thereof during welding, construction and calculation. During these courses, Mr Dieter Kocab from EWM, assistant to the board of directors in the area of research and development and head of the “Process Optimisation” department, gave lectures on the topics “efficiency in the field of welding technology” and “repair welding”.
As the collaboration had worked so well, in 2009 Mr Eich came up with the idea of presenting the awards in a welding company for the first time. EWM was pleased to honour the graduates at a small ceremony on its own premises. The programme started with a friendly welcome to all guests by Wiebke Szczesny, assistant to the board of directors, and a presentation by EWM by Mr Dieter Kocab. The image presentation showed EWM in a new, innovative light and emphasised the high level of innovation of the company in the field of welding technology. The formal certificate presentation by Mr Peter Eich (HWK Koblenz) then took place. The graduates received a German certificate and an international certificate. Mr Handlos (welding expert, SFM) from the “Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e.V.” (DVS – German Welding Society) was also present as the representative of the examination committee to congratulate the graduates. The top graduate, Olaf Steffens, was presented with an award by Mr Kocab. He received a new Powershield helmet from EWM as recognition of his outstanding performance and to give him a head start in a successful future as an “International Welding Expert (IWE)”. After the official part of the event, Mr Kocab led a tour around EWM's state-of-the-art technology centre. Snacks, drinks and pleasant conversation finished off the evening and generated a nice atmosphere amongst the guests.
